Choose which numbers show in the dialer

Pick which of your company's phone numbers appear in the dialer dropdown when placing outbound calls. Keep the ones you actually use, hide the rest — every user's dialer stays clean and easy to switch caller IDs from.

What it is

Your Joby workspace can hold many phone numbers — one main line, dedicated marketing numbers, campaign-specific tracking numbers, alternate area codes for different service regions, and so on.

Not every number belongs in the dialer dropdown. If a technician only ever calls out on the main business line, seeing 12 other numbers just clutters the picker. Dialer configuration lets you (or each admin) choose which numbers from the pool show up as options when placing an outbound call.

Note — hiding is not disconnecting

Unchecking a number here only hides it from the dialer dropdown. The number stays connected to your workspace and continues to receive inbound calls and texts as normal. This setting is about outbound convenience only.

When to use it

  • You bought a tracking number for a specific ad campaign. It should ring in but you don't want techs accidentally calling out from it (bad for customer trust). Hide it.

  • You have a regional number for a service area. Only the techs serving that area should see it — show it to them, hide it from everyone else.

  • You added a temporary number for a promo. When the promo ends, hide the number so nobody calls out from it — but keep it connected in case a customer calls back.

  • Onboarding a new tech. Show them just the main line to keep it simple, add more as they get comfortable.

Set it up

Two short parts: enable the phone module for the user, then pick which numbers show in their dialer dropdown.

Part 1 — Enable Phone

1. Turn on Phone availability

In the user's settings, toggle Phone availability on. This makes them ready to receive calls and unlocks the dialer configuration below.

1

2. Open Dialer Configuration

Click Dialer Configuration to open the outbound caller ID settings.

Part 2 — Pick which numbers show

3. See every number in your pool

You'll see the full list of phone numbers connected to your organization. Each one has a checkbox — checked numbers appear in the dialer dropdown, unchecked ones don't.

3

4. Check the numbers to include

Tick the checkbox next to each number you want available in the dialer.

4

5. Add as many as needed

Keep checking numbers you want to show. There's no limit — but keep it to what people actually use so the dropdown stays clean.

5

6. Save Display Numbers

Click Save Display Numbers to commit the selection. The dialer picks up the change immediately — no reload needed.

Using the dialer with your chosen numbers

7. Open the phone number dropdown

When you're about to place a call, click the phone number dropdown at the top of the dialer to see the numbers you enabled.

7

8. Pick the caller ID for this call

Select the number you want the customer to see as the caller ID. That's the number your call is placed from. You can switch again any time before dialing.

Tip

Match the caller ID to the number the customer originally saw. If a lead called your Chicago tracking number, call them back from the Chicago number — much higher answer rate than calling from your main line, and it keeps the tracking data clean.

Things to know

Situation

What happens

You uncheck a number

It disappears from the dialer dropdown immediately. Inbound calls to that number still route as normal.

You add a new phone number to your workspace

It shows up in Dialer Configuration unchecked. Tick it to make it available in the dialer.

You disconnect a number entirely

It disappears from this list and from every dialer, and stops receiving inbound. Different from hiding.

Different users need different dialer sets

This is a per-user setting — each teammate configures their own dialer independently.

You forgot to save

Unsaved changes are lost when you leave the page. Always click Save Display Numbers before navigating away.
