Live Location Tracking shows dispatchers exactly where every active technician is on the map, in real time. It's separate from the per-job GPS stamps captured at clock-in/out — Live Tracking pings continuously while a technician is on the clock. Enable it once in settings, then make sure your team grants location permission on their phones.
1. Open Time Tracking
You'll find Time Tracking under Settings. This is where you control all clock-in behavior, GPS verification, and live location tracking for your field crew.
2. Open the Live Locations tab
The Live Locations tab is where the live-tracking settings live. When enabled, every technician's location pings the server while they're clocked in, and dispatchers see them in real time on the map.
3. Enable Live Location Tracking
Toggle the Live Location Tracking switch on. Once active, technicians' phones report their location at a configurable interval whenever they have an active job timer or are on the clock.
4. Set the tracking interval
Pick how often the phone reports location. Shorter intervals (every 30 seconds) give dispatchers a more accurate live view; longer intervals (every 5 minutes) save the technician's battery. 1–2 minutes is a good balance for most service businesses.
5. Review the dispatcher map
From the main app, open the Jobs Map (or Live Locations view) to see every active technician's current position. Click any technician's pin to see their current job, the time on shift, and recent ping history.
6. Tell your technicians to allow location access
The first time a technician clocks in on a device, the Joby mobile app requests location permission. They must grant Always Allow (not "Only While Using") for live tracking to work when the app is in the background.
