Invoices
Create, send and get paid on an invoice
Build the invoice from your price book, send it by email or text, let the customer pay online, and see at a glance who still owes you.
An invoice in Joby is the whole job of getting paid, not just a piece of paper. You build it, send it, and your customer opens a branded page where they can pay by card. Anything you collect yourself — cash, check, card in the field — goes on the same invoice, so the balance is always right.
Build the invoice
1. Find your invoices
Work → Invoices in the left sidebar. The cards along the top split everything by state: what's open, what's overdue, and what's already been paid. Click New Invoice to start one.
2. Link the customer
Click Link a client.
Link, don't type
Linking pulls in the customer's address, phone and email, and the invoice shows up on their client page afterwards. Typing a name by hand gives you none of that.
3. Pick them from the list
Search by name, phone or email and choose the customer.
4. Add what you sold
Click Add from Price Book and pick the work. Items bring their price and description with them, so your wording stays the same on every invoice. Use Add Item for a one-off that isn't in your price book.
5. Know your profit before you send
Put your own cost on the line and Joby works out the markup, margin and profit on the grey Internal strip.
Your customer never sees this
The Internal strip is staff-only. It doesn't appear on the customer's page, the emailed invoice, or the PDF — it's there so you can price the job properly before it goes out.
Send it and get paid
6. Send it
Click Save & Send. Choose email, text, or both, and add a personal note if you want. The invoice and the payment button are attached automatically — you don't need to write a link.
7. What your customer sees
They land on a page with your business name and logo, the work itemised, and one Pay Now button. They can pay by card there and then, or download a PDF.
No login, no account to create
The link opens straight to the invoice. Anything that adds a step between your customer and the Pay Now button costs you days.
8. Took the money yourself?
Cash, check or a card you ran in the field — open the invoice and record it under Payments Received. The balance and the invoice's status update straight away, and part payments are fine.
Chase what's late
9. See who owes you
Back on the invoice list, click Overdue. That's your chase list: who's late, how much, and how long it's been.
10. Nudge a late payer
Use the ⋮ menu on any invoice and choose Send to Customer to send it again with its pay link. Copy Link gives you the same link to paste into a text or email yourself.
Things to know
Question | Answer |
Can a customer pay part of an invoice? | Yes. Part payments are recorded against the invoice and the balance updates. The status only flips to paid when the balance reaches zero. |
Can I invoice without a price book? | Yes — use Add Item for one-offs. The price book just saves you retyping the same work and wording every time. |
Does the customer need an account? | No. The link opens the invoice directly, with no login. |
Can I send by text instead of email? | Yes, or both at once. Pick what you want in the Save & Send dialog. |
Where does online card money land? | In your Joby Pay balance, then out to your bank on the payout schedule. Joby Pay has to be activated first. |
I already invoiced from inside a job — is this different? | Same invoice, different starting point. See Create your first invoice for the job-to-invoice path. |
Can I resend an invoice? | Yes, as many times as you need. Use Send to Customer from the ⋮ menu — the pay link stays the same. |
